Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions
The Department for Education has published new statutory guidance for governing bodies of maintained schools and proprietors of academies in England in respect of the support given by schools to pupils with medical conditions. The full guidance, which is effective from September 2014, can be found here.
- Pupils at school with medical conditions should be properly supported so that they have full access to education, including school trips and physical education
- Governing bodies must ensure that arrangements are in place in schools to support pupils at school with medical conditions
- Governing bodies should ensure that school leaders consult health and social care professionals, pupils and parents to ensure that the needs of children with medical conditions are effectively supported.
We are pleased to report that myconcern will enable schools, governing bodies and academy proprietors to fully meet the responsibilities contained within the statutory guidance. This includes the management of Individual Health Care Plans, risk assessments, notifying all relevant staff of the child's condition, the recording of necessary consents, the administration of medicines and the management of staff training.
